[FDE] MacBooks & FDE
A question was asked over on StorageEffect.com if the FDE drive (aka SED for Self Encrypting Drive) can be installed into a MacBook Pro. Does anyone know the answer?
What are the system requirements for these drives? Can I slap one into my MacBook Pro? Or is it BIOS and Windows only? Or perhaps it needs a special BIOS?

You can install it, but to use FDE you need EFI support for the key loading commands in the disk controller (otherwise the drive works but just uses a default key). Apple hadn't put that support into EFI yet, but there is an encryption product vendor out of Canada that announced support at RSA (US) in February. No idea if they finally shipped or whether it was a more-or-less secure approach.
